  • Can be too thin and can easily get rusty if not well taken care of.
  • Not suitable for men with thick coarse hair since it is not sharp enough and using it results to nicks and razor burns.

Why you should get it: It works well, made of good-quality and is affordable.

Caring for your sensitive Skin

caring for your sensitive Skin

So before we go ahead and check the best products (razor blades) suited for you, let us first go through this pointers in taking care of your delicate skin. Getting the best razor blades will be worthless if you don’t take care of your skin after all.

#1. It always pays to check the label

I think I heard that somewhere else, but seriously, if you have sensitive skin, wouldn’t you think twice before applying any skin care product to your face? Here are the things that must be avoided if you have sensitive skin:

  • Alcohol. You know it’s drying to your skin. A dry and sensitive skin can get easily irritated.
  • Artificial Fragrance. Having too many products with a various artificial fragrance that come with it can be torturing your skin. Seriously, stay away from anything with strong smell-be it soaps, shaving creams, pomade, facial wash, or shampoo.
  • Sulfates. They are common in facial wash, soap or toothpaste, but I know it irritates your skin.
  • Grainy harsh scrubs (apricot). Which part of the word “harsh” are you not getting?
  • Cinnamates. It is common among lotions and sunscreens. Yes, they smell sweet like cinnamon, but dermatologists say, this will not be very good to your skin.
  • Lanolin and mineral oil. This is widely used in skincare and is deemed beneficial for most, but some people WITH SENSITIVE SKIN reacts differently. Yes, it’s a good moisturizer, but be extra careful. Always test products with ingredients like these beforehand.
  • Helioplex. It’s a new sunscreen agent that blocks both UVA and UVB so it's very effective in protecting your skin from the sun. It works well, but may come off too strong for some, thus the irritation.
  • Sorbic Acid. It is used as a preservative in many prescription retinoid creams. It is effective and safe but many report that it irritates their skin at first.
  • Salicylic Acid. This one is an effective ingredient that gets rid of pimples and minor breakouts. It’s just troublesome because some people with sensitive skin can be allergic to it. It can dry out and thin your skin, so be extra careful.

#2. Use the right men’s skincare products and don’t overdo it

Many people fall into the trap of applying more, and doing it more frequent, to achieve faster results. That may work for some, but for people with sensitive skin? That can bring more harm than good.

#3. Stay away from foamy products.

What’s with the foam anyway? They do nothing but irritate. Yes, it feels clean and looks cool when shaving, but those ingredients used to create foam? They can be as irritating as your ex.

#4. Don’t rub, just pat!

A delicate skin should be handled gently. So instead of rubbing your face with a coarse towel every after wash, why don’t you just gently pat it with a softer cotton one? Try it. It feels better.

#5. Protect your skin from the sun

We all know the harmful effects of the sun to ANY skin right? If not, here’s a link to the article for you to know more about it. Wearing caps, applying sunblock (SPF40 and above), and staying indoors are just some of the recommendations.

#6. Avoid soaking in hot tubs or hot showers

Hot showers and bath tend to dry out our skin and make it flaky. Dryness plus sensitive skin? That’s itchy, inflamed and worst skin ever. Stay safe with the refreshing and energizing cool or lukewarm bath.

#7. Use gentle soaps and aftershaves

Soaps and shaving dry your skin, so make sure that what you use is just basic gentle bar soap with no additional alcohol or fragrance. An aftershave also minimizes razor burns and other skin irritation after shaving.

#8. Don’t just wear ANY deodorant

It is easy for men to miss deodorant in checking for labels. It’s just THAT thing to keep you from being sweaty and smelly, right? WRONG. Deodorants may contain strong ingredients and alcohol which can dry and irritate your sensitive skin. Go for mild and unscented ones if possible.

#9. Don’t overlook your scalp

If you have a dry and sensitive skin, it is more likely that your scalp is also in the same situation. Like what I always say, choose gentle and mild products for your sensitive skin.

#10. If unsure, test it first

If you really have to, or if you really want to try a product, then test first for any reaction before doing it all the way. You can test it on the anterior surface of your below (known to be a sensitive spot). If your skin didn’t react, then it’s good!

Conclusion

If I were to be asked, I would love to recommend American-made products like Personna. However, because of cheap imitations that you might encounter. I’d say try Feather blades since they have the closest shave and due to its own disposal mechanism which is eco-friendly.

How about you? Which of these best safety razor for sensitive skin and why? Feel free to comment below.
